Rival fans adore Man City’s £77m transfer Josko Gvardiol is ‘dunked on’ during Sevilla’s Super Cup debut

RIVAL supporters cheered as Josko Gvardiol was “dunked on” in his debut for Manchester City.

The reigning Premier League champions paid £77 million to capture the Croatian from RB Leipzig this summer.

After coming off the bench against Burnley last Friday, Pep Guardiola gave Gvardiol his first City start in the Uefa Super Cup against Sevilla on Wednesday.

Gvardiol was powerless to stop Youssef En-Nesyri from scoring just 25 minutes into the game.

En-Nesyri rose to meet Marcos Acuna’s superb cross.

Fans couldn’t help but notice that the 6ft 2in forward had outjumped City’s new acquisition.

One tweeted: “Gvardiol DUNKED on.”

While a second sarcastically wrote: “Josko Gvardiol looks MINT”.

A third harshly tweeted: “That Kim at Bayern far better and cheaper.”

Accompanied by laughing emojis, another added: “Most expensive defender in the world.”

Ahead of the match, Guardiola had said of Gvardiol: “I was really pleased for his debut at Burnley.

“Unfortunately he didn’t have much time to train together for the schedule that we have.

“After the Newcastle game [on Saturday night] we have eight days to train. Step by step. Of course he’s here, if we decide to play he’s more than ready to do it.”

Despite falling behind, City came back to tie the game in the second half.

On 6 minutes, Cole Palmer’s superb header tied the game.

And City held their nerve to win the season opener on penalties, 5-4.
