As part of Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park last month, the No. 1 goalkeeper made an outstanding save on a Miguel Almiron shot to win the award.
During the first half, Alisson made a pivotal intervention by reacting quickly to deflect the forward’s volley and scoop away the rebound, preventing the home team from taking a 2-0 lead.
Later, Liverpool came back from behind with 10 men and earned three points thanks to a late double from substitute Darwin Nunez.
Alisson won the vote for Save of the Month against Alphonse Areola of West Ham United, Mark Flekken of Brentford, Jose Sa of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Jordan Pickford of Everton, and Guglielmo Vicario of Tottenham Hotspur.
The Brazilian stated when he accepted the trophy at the AXA Training Center, “Thanks – receiving an award is always good, feels good.
“I believe you won’t give the team as much credit for this one; I believe you did it yourself! Like a forward who has won goal of the month.
“I think the save helped us to keep three points, to keep the team alive to get the three points,” the player said, “so it was even more special.”
Alisson continued by describing the save from his point of view: “[It was] a lot about responses. Good positioning, in my opinion, with an effort to also understand the scenario. But I believe the responses played a major role.
“With so many players in front of me, I wasn’t able to see the ball clearly, and Almiron’s shot had a lot of power,” the player said. I’m pleased that I was able to move quickly, put my hand down, and attempt to save the situation.
Since joining the Reds in 2018, Alisson has made an impressive number of Premier League saves, with the stop on Tyneside being just one of the most recent.
He was asked if it was one of his favorites, to which he responded, “Definitely, I think it will be. There are some.
“I don’t remember the season, but one that comes to mind was the one versus Norwich as well. At the conclusion of the game, there was a pretty nice one-on-one. Those two are, in my opinion, at the top.
