Sergio Ramos marked his return to Sevilla after 18 years with a minimal victory over Las Palmas

Veteran defender Sergio Ramos made his return to the team where his career began after an 18-year absence as Sevilla overcame Las Palmas 1-0 in the Spanish league to earn its first victory of the year.

Ramos, 37, started his career at Sevilla before moving on to rival Real Madrid. While some Sevilla supporters were unhappy with his most recent acquisition, the majority came out in favor on Sunday.

At the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, Dodi Lukebakio scored the game-winning goal for Sevilla in the 71st minute. After three straight league losses to begin the season, the win helped the team escape the danger zone.

For promoted Las Palmas, who is still winless and in the relegation zone, it was their third defeat in five games.

After 15 players missed the initial flight, according to the club, Las Palmas had to travel from the Canary Islands on two different aircraft.
