After Arsenal took the lead in the North London Derby, Bukayo Saka imitated Tottenham player James Maddison’s celebration.
Arsenal and Tottenham came into the derby unbeaten for the first time in Premier League history, each having collected 13 points from a possible 15.
But it was Arsenal who struck first, with Martin Odegaard playing a ball out to Saka on the right, who cut back onto his preferred left foot and attempted to bend a shot into the far corner.
Spurs center-back Christian Romero unleashed a crazy left leg, deflecting the ball away from Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and into the net.
While the goal was eventually ruled an own-goal by Romero, Saka poured salt in Tottenham’s wounds by emulating Maddison’s ‘darts’ celebration.
Despite the Gunners’ dominance in the first half, Tottenham equalized in the 40th minute through captain Son Heung-min.
Maddison beat Saka to the byline and cut a low ball back to Son, who finished emphatically against the run of play.
Saka and Maddison appear to get along well off the field, with the Spurs midfielder even presenting his Arsenal rival with England’s Player of the Year accolade in September.
Of course, Maddison made sure to get a subtle Arsenal jab in when giving the award to his mate.
“Brilliant. I haven’t given you my present yet,” Maddison said to Saka. “It’s a Tottenham scarf, I’ll give it to you later on.”
Laughing, Saka responded: “I’ll give it you back bro. I’ll give it back to you.”
