Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese superstar, is said to have told Al Nassr management that he wants to extend his contract with the club until 2027.
Ronaldo went to Saudi Arabia in December 2022 and has settled in well, scoring 25 goals and assisting eight times in 30 games.
The 38-year-old has been named captain of Al Nassr, who are third in the league behind Al Taawoun and Neymar’s Al Hilal.
According to football journalist Ali Al-Harbi, the striker has informed club management of his desire to remain in Saudi Arabia until 2027.
Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to life well in Saudi Arabia, becoming captain and scoring goals
The 38-year-old is Portugal’s captain and hopes to return to the World Cup.
‘Cristiano Ronaldo notified the administration of the Saudi #club before flying to the Portuguese national team camp that he wants to prolong his contract till the beginning of 2027,’ said Al-Harbi in a post on X.
‘Cristiano wants to play in the 2026 World Cup while still playing for Al-Nassr Club, and then he plans to retire from football.’
Ronaldo will turn 41 years old if he plays in the World Cup, an extraordinary feat especially for such an athlete as the great striker.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada in 2026.
Ronaldo was benched for PSG’s Concalo Ramos at the last World Cup, and his team was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Morocco.
However, with Al-Harbi implying that Ronaldo will retire from football after the World Cup, these may be the last few years for fans to see the superstar in action.
