When a billionaire goes out to buy the next cutting-edge, eye-catching ship, they will probably start by looking at a drawing of what their dream boat could look like.
The Acionna mega-yacht, which is 175 meters (574 feet) long, is a dream for billionaires. It was designed by Andy Waugh Yacht Design, which is based in the UK and has been around since 2008. Since then, eight superyacht projects have been finished and two more are in the works. With a focus on “sophisticated simplicity,” each vessel aims to be a “design classic.” By looking at the Acionna, it seems that both of the goals stated above have been met.
As was already said, this boat is really big. It’s almost the length of two football fields, and there’s probably enough room to set up a real football field if you wanted to. Overall, there are eight areas on the ship where you can relax or just have a good time.
The outside form of this ship is one of its most important parts. Made to be an impressive piece of engineering, the ship’s size lets the creator push the limits of his design skills. This gives the ship long, flowing decks and a superstructure that never seems to end. The “arrowheads” you can see near the middle of the ship can also be turned on to make floating platforms outside the ship that are great for sightseeing when you visit ice shelves and Caribbean islands.
Even though the ship is just a concept, the creator gives future owners some ideas about what they could do and where they could put things inside. Having a helicopter pad and garage is one way to show the world how wealthy you are. Even though that seems like enough to say, it’s only the beginning.
Aside from the fact that the final design is up to the owner, the Acionna’s interior can have a full-size squash court, a 20-meter (66-foot) indoor pool, spa services, and even a garage, and not just a garage for tenders, but a garage for supercars as well. Several other pools are also connected and flow into each other over different floors. The owners can even add waterfalls if they want to. Don’t bother looking for pictures of the inside because the creator didn’t include any. This is up to the person who buys the house in the end.
The method for moving forward is another thing that the design studio has thought about. The Acionna is not like other superyachts because it uses hydrogen drive. With this in mind, Waugh wants to make a ship that has “zero impact” and can sail all seven seas.
But the designer’s website says that there is a problem with using hydrogen in ships this big: there isn’t a safe way to get hydrogen. It seems like not enough companies have enough hydrogen to power a 574-foot ship around the world. What to do? Find a way for the Acionna’s own hydrogen-capturing drivetrain to be its power.
But there is one thing I would change about the way this ship is made. Because of its long, wide decks and superstructure, I think this mega-yacht could easily use solar power to help any other propulsion system on board.
