‘Big chance’: Liverpool target set to leave club in January transfer as Reds set to make $55m move

With transfer speculations circulating around Liverpool, here are a couple of recent reports that have been reported in the media.

Manchester City midfielder to join Liverpool?

Liverpool will continue to be connected with defensive midfielders as long as Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister fail to entirely convince at the position. Kalvin Phillips of Manchester City is one player in whom it is said to be interested.

The i (via Rousing The Kop) has speculated that the England international could be on the move in January. With only 373 Premier League minutes under his belt for City, who can blame Phillips for thinking his future lies elsewhere?

Nonetheless, there is a significant gap between him leaving the Etihad and signing on the dotted line at Anfield. According to the story, “there’s no indication that Liverpool would reignite a pursuit of the midfielder,” but given that Liverpool has shown interest in the past and appears to be in need of a specialized holding midfielder, this speculation is unlikely to go away completely for a long.

Liverpool or Manchester United have not ‘dazzled’ the defender

Liverpool is rumored to be interested in a number of central defenders, much as it is in the market for a new ‘number six’. António Silva, a right-sided center-back from Benfica who turns 20 later this month, is one of the players making the rounds on the Reds’ rumor mill.

Given that Liverpool recently signed Darwin Nunez from the same club, is there an existing relationship that can be leveraged? Regardless, the athlete does not appear to be interested in moving to England.

According to Record (via Sport Witness), Silva isn’t ‘dazzled’ by interest from Manchester United and Liverpool because he regards Real Madrid as Europe’s top dog. Whatever the truth is in these claims, the Reds are used to missing out on transfer targets to Real Madrid.

Silva, who has a reported $127 million (£104 million/€120 million) release clause, seems unlikely to join Liverpool anytime soon. This one could last a while.
