Boston’s bench guys shine in a 112-101 preseason win over the 76ers

The Boston Celtics won a preseason exhibition game against the Philadelphia 76ers 112-101 on Wednesday night, increasing their preseason record to 2-1. All-NBA forwards Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were both absent for the Celtics, as were star big man Joel Embiid and disgruntled point James Harden for the 76ers.

For the second straight preseason game, Boston relied on their bench, and the second and third units stepped up with high-energy, linked play on both ends (at least for preseason) to seal the win. Payton Pritchard continues to dominate the preseason, scoring 17 points for Boston, while Svi Mykhailiuk (15 points, 6 rebounds) and Neemias Queta (10 points, 2 assists) do well with limited minutes.

Sam Hauser (15 points, 3 assists) also shone on the starting lineup, with Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White all scoring exactly 11 points in 17 minutes of game time.

The Celtics are now off until Tuesday, October 17, when they meet the New York Knicks at TD Garden in the NBA’s 2023 preseason finale.
