David de Gea went back to Man Utd for lunch with Reguilon

David de Gea recently had lunch with Manchester United defender Sergio Reguilon, fueling speculation about the likelihood of the Spanish goalkeeper returning to Old Trafford.

De Gea’s 12-year affiliation with the Red Devils came to an end at the end of last season when his contract expired and the club decided not to renew it.The Spaniard won the 2022/23 Premier League Golden Glove title for most clean sheets, but it wasn’t enough to earn him a contract extension.

United subsequently signed Andre Onana, who had a rocky start at Old Trafford, making multiple severe blunders.According to reports, with De Gea still unemployed, the idea of him being welcomed back to MU in the near future cannot be ruled out.

De Gea initially returned to Manchester when he went to his old house in Cheshire to pack his belongings. However, he posted a photo of himself and Reguilon eating lunch together on Instagram last Wednesday, with the caption: “Nice to meet you.”

This couple is close, as proven by the fact that the left-back on loan from Tottenham from Manchester United recently claimed that De Gea pushed him to join the Red Devils last summer.

Reguilon has only appeared in three games since joining MU, all of which have been missed due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

“I talked a lot with David and he told me about the club,” Reguilon shared. “He told me it was the best club in England. All the players here are legends. I follow the Premier League very often.”

“David will always be a legend at Man Utd, he told me about the club, the people here, the training ground, the stadium, the fans, everything. He said they were amazing, unbelievable . He just says great things.”

“Playing here is a dream. I’m very excited to come here to play for MU. Now I want to play in the Premier League. It’s my time to play. Opponents always know that it will be difficult when coming to Old Trafford. The atmosphere at the stadium is something different, really special.”

De Gea was also spotted in the stands on Tuesday night, watching Manchester United women’s 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Since leaving MU, the Spanish goalkeeper has resided in Madrid with his partner, pop diva Edurne Garcia, and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Yanay.Last summer, the pair married in Menorca.

Some United supporters believe that because De Gea is still a free agent and Onana has been underwhelming, the prospect of him returning to the club cannot be ruled out.

De Gea, who turns 33 next month, is thought to be confident about his future and to be enjoying the rare spare time in his career with his family, rather than looking for a new club.

He previously shared a video to his Instagram account demonstrating his training progress and was connected with a number of elite teams over the summer, but the January 2024 transfer window may be the time to do so. One of the world’s best keepers returns to a fitting spot.
