Liverpool is one among the clubs interested in Schalke midfielder Assan Ouedraogo.
Despite signing four new midfielders this summer, the Reds are still looking for more. If another name is added to that pack, Andre of Fluminense appears to be the front-runner, but he isn’t the only one.
Sky Sports writer Florian Plettenberg took to Twitter yesterday to share a fresh one for Liverpool fans to keep an eye on.
“Liverpool and especially Jurgen Klopp is monitoring the development of Assan Ouedraogo!” according to a German newspaper.
“The Schalke 17-year-old versatile midfielder has a release clause in 2024.” Foreign clubs must pay roughly €20 million [£17 million].
“Next to LFC more clubs from [England] are interested: Everton & Brighton!”
Very interesting news as the countdown to the January transfer window begins.
Liverpool is keeping an eye on German talent
We’re guessing that Ouedraogo is a new name for almost every Liverpool supporter. Allow us – or rather bundesliga.com – to provide some context.
According to the German league’s official website, the 17-year-old is a midfielder with ‘explosive pace.’
Although pace isn’t something you’d identify with former Red Xabi Alonso, bundesliga.com has been comparing Ouedraogo to the renowned Spaniard.
They think that the youngster, like Alonso, has the capacity to drop deep and build attacks.
At 6 feet 3 inches, he already has a terrific physical presence that will no sure draw the attention of many scouts.
Despite the fact that he is presently playing for Schalke, who are battling at the bottom of the Bundesliga 2 table, Ouedraogo appears to be headed for a higher level.
As a result, he may not yet be a household name. But the implication is that this young man will be very soon. For the talent Ouedraogo appears to have, he could be a steal for Liverpool. They should go in there as soon as possible, before another side snatches him away.
