Manchester United forwards Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund showcased their goal-scoring prowess for their respective national teams.
Rashford, representing England against Italy at Wembley Stadium, joined forces with his United teammate Harry Maguire as the Three Lions sought to secure qualification for Euro 2024. In a closely contested match, Gianluca Scamacca threatened to dampen the English spirits with a close-range effort in the 15th minute. However, Harry Kane restored parity for England from the penalty spot after Jude Bellingham was fouled.
It was Rashford who put his country ahead in the 57th minute, displaying his agility and skill as he weaved through the Italian defense before unleashing a powerful shot that left Gianluigi Donnarumma helpless. Kane sealed the victory for England 20 minutes later, showing strength and resilience as he shrugged off challenges to slot the ball past the goalkeeper.
Meanwhile, Hojlund was nearly on the receiving end of a scаre in his Euro qualifier against San Marino. The striker opened the scoring with a fierce strike after 40 minutes.
However, anyone expecting the floodgates to open were wrong as the hosts equalised just after the hour mark through Alessandro Golinucci. Yussuf Poulsen spared their blushes with 20 minutes remaining as the Danes edged closer to Euro 2024 qualification. Christian Eriksen completed 90 minutes alongside Hojlund.
Elsewhere, Jonny Evans played a full 90 minutes as Northern Ireland lost 1-0 at home to Slovenia in their qualifier. It was also a disappointing night for Scott McTominay whose Scotland team were leading 1-0 against France in an international friendly but a brace from Benjamin Pavard, a Kylian Mbappe penalty and a Kingsley Coman strike secured a comfortable night for Didier Deschamps’ me𝚗.
