DAVID DE GEA uploaded a photo of himself wearing a new kit… but it’s not quite what fans might think.
After departing Manchester United in the summer, the Spaniard is now a free agent.
The next stage in his career has sparked much speculation.
Real Madrid were heavily connected with De Gea before opting for a loan deal for Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.
A possible deal to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich also fell through.
And he was even pictured back in Manchester doing some training last week, as United fans urged the club to bring him back amid the troubles of replacement Andre Onana.
Despite the fact that his football career has come to a halt, De Gea has continued to pursue matters off the field.
De Gea, 32, established his own eSports squad, Rebels Gaming, in 2021.
A year later, ex-Manchester United teammate Juan Mata and current club captain Bruno Fernandes were added as shareholders.
De Gea also showed off his eSports team’s spectacular new outfit in a recent Instagram story post.
The “The Red Spike” kit has a black base with a cracked red pattern across it and a white collar.
The kit may be purchased for £47.65 (€54.90).
Rebels Gaming has over 28,000 Instagram followers and competes in a variety of eSports tournaments for titles such as League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, and Valorant.
The highest prize for winning the main event in the most popular of them, League of Legends, is believed to be £1.8 million.
According to De Gea’s comment on the team’s website, “The launch of Rebels Gaming within eSports is another dream come true.”
“It is a project that aims to instill in new generations of young people the core values that have guided me since my start in professional football, within a framework of innovation and unparalleled technological development.”
“The digital age and cutting-edge technologies have created a new playing field for the development of new abilities and dreams.” Let us seize this fantastic opportunity to develop a better society.”
Those with vast pockets have also taken notice of the expansion of eSports.
Saudi Arabia recently established the Gamers8 eSports festival, which contained a £37 million prize pool.
According to eSports Insider, the competition awarded over £4 million in prize money to eSports organizations that performed well across numerous titles at the festival.
Other titles such as Dota 2, Rocket League, and Fortnite have been added to the games in which Rebels Gaming compete.
British eSports also struck a collaboration agreement with the Gulf States’ own federation last week.
