Fabrizio Romano reports Liverpool set to reignite €45m transfer in January

Liverpool may be able to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone in the near future, as he is looking for a new challenge.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive column for the Daily Briefing, the Frenchman drew interest from Liverpool and Juventus in the summer, but interest from both teams cooled towards the conclusion of the season.

Kone, on the other hand, is one to keep an eye on in January, as Romano says there’s a chance he might leave for roughly €45 million, though he also claimed that there’s nothing solid with Liverpool, Juve, or any other clubs at this time.

However, it is possible that the 22-year-old will receive bids closer to January, so LFC supporters will want to keep a watch on his status as he could be excellent to continue rebuilding their midfield.

Liverpool lost some major names this summer, including Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, so there could be potential for further midfield additions, even after bringing in Alexis MacAllister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch.

“Manu Kone could also be one to watch in January, as it’s not true that he’s signed a new contract with Borussia Monchengladbach, despite reports elsewhere,” Romano stated of Kone’s status.

“Kone’s current contract runs until 2026, but he has the option to leave in 2024.” We’ll have to wait and see what happens, because there are now no contacts or conversations with any other clubs, despite considerable interest in him.

“Juventus and Liverpool were two clubs that considered him but did not contact him again after August.” So we’ll see what happens in 2024, but the player is still open to attempting something new, and his asking price is expected to be around €40/45 million.”
