The Manchester derby between Man Utd and “noisy neighbor” Man City at Old Trafford is the highlight of round 10 of the 2023/24 Premier League. Rasmus Hojlund, a Danish striker, was referenced frequently prior to the match between Manchester United and Manchester City. Since joining MU from Atalanta last summer for a cost of 72 million pounds, the 20-year-old striker has scored three goals in the European Cup for the “Red Devils” but is yet to score in the Premier League this season.
In that backdrop, Hojlund recently spoke candidly in The Telegraph about the long-awaited Manchester derby, and emphasized his ambition to score a spectacular goal against Manchester City. Hojlund says he’s still trying to “find rhythm” at MU after transferring last summer. “Everything is fine,” Hojlund remarked of his first semester at Man Utd.
“I tried my best every time I played, but I still need to find my rhythm. I know my value, I know I have to improve every day because I play for MU. Finally, I’m only 20 years old and I still have a lot to do. At least I feel like I’m getting there slowly. I think I’ve had a good start to the season and now I hope the goals will come in the Premier League.” Besides, Hojlund also shared about loving MU since he was a child.
Hojlund is desperate to score against Man City
“I always support MU, so I am realizing my dream every day. I try to show my personality and want to give 110% every time I play a MU match,” Hojlund emphasized. Along with that, Hojlund also dreams of scoring a masterpiece in the Manchester derby against Man City this Sunday, with a goal similar to the “upside down bicycle” goal of former MU player Wayne Rooney. “Of course it would be Wayne Rooney’s bicycle goal! Everyone must remember that, right?”, Hojlund excitedly talked about Rooney’s beautiful goal in MU’s 2-1 victory over Man City in February 2011.
Hojlund also discussed the contrast with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who presently leads the Premier League 2023/24 top scorers list with 9 goals from the start of the season till today. “As I’ve repeatedly stated, I don’t want to be compared to anyone, including Erling Haaland.” He is currently the finest striker in the world. And I appreciate that, but I’m also going to show everyone what I’m genuinely capable of,” Hojlund asserted emphatically.
With what is going on, it is evident that Man City’s defense should be wary of a Hojlund who is desperate to score against Man City this season.
