Man Utd face paying record price to remove Erik ten Hag as Red Devils flops turn on manager’s methods and decisions

ERIK TEN HAG’S dismissal would cost Manchester United a record £15million.

The Dutch boss is under severe criticism following the 3-0 battering by local rivals Manchester City on Sunday – with even his own players left puzzled by some of his tactics.

Ten Hag’s £9 million-a-year contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2025.His future at the Theatre of Dreams, however, has grown dubious following the Red Devils’ fifth defeat in ten league games on Sunday.Man United have sacked managers for a total of £38 million since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure from Old Trafford in 2013.If the Glazers choose to get rid of another leader, they will have to pay Ten Hag’s guaranteed salary, which is expected to be over £15 million, according to the Daily Mirror.3

This is a record fee for the club, as previous managers such as David Moyes (£7m), Louis van Gaal (£8.4m), and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (£7.5m) were paid significantly less.

Only Jose Mourinho (£15 million) has come close to matching the Dutchman’s possible reward.

Ten Hag’s future at the club has grown even more dubious after he chastised his Red Devils’ performance in the second half against City.

The United Chief argued that his team will never be able to play like his successful Ajax side.

Ten Hag spent a successful four and half seasons from 2017-2022 at the Eredivisie side, winning three league titles.

He told Viaplay: “We will never play that football. Because those were different players. This is also not why I came here.

“We are playing different football than I showed at Ajax because I have to because I can’t play the same way. The players decide how you play.

“Ajax has a very typical and characteristic style of play, with Manchester United I will always show different football, I did so last year as well.

“We play much more direct football here because I have the players for that here.”

SunSport stated that United’s flops were ready to defend themselves after being taken aback by the manager’s tactics on Sunday.

Several players voiced their concerns at the dressing-room inquest.

In particular, they questioned the positions played by Victor Lindelof and Bruno Fernandes and why Antony was thrown on so late in the game.

And now, Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s impending visit may imperil Ten Hag’s position, with prospective changes in the works.
