Gary Neville has strongly criticized Anthony Martial, stating that the striker should not be playing for Manchester United. Despite struggling with injuries in recent years, Neville has been unimpressed by Martial’s goalscoring record at Old Trafford. Since joining the club nine years ago, Martial has scored 89 goals in 311 games for the Red Devils.
Neville expressed his disbelief at these statistics and believes that Martial should not be starting ahead of Rasmus Hojlund. Prior to the match against Newcastle, Neville said, “When you hear the stats there and think he is a goalscorer that cost £50-60million and has scored 89 goals in nine years, and we still can’t get him out of the club. I don’t think we are being hard enough. The failing of the football and recruitment department is absolutely incredible.”
Neville’s comments reflect his dissatisfaction with Martial’s performance and suggest a lack of confidence in the player’s ability to contribute effectively to Manchester United.
“The reality is there is no way he should be leading the line in any competition.
“They have the young lad Hojlund who has real promise but they need experience up alongside him.
“If he came into United and his partner was Cole, Yorke or Cantona you would see a sensation as the pressure would be off him. I feel for him a bit.”
Fans agreed with Neville’s viewpoint on the Frenchman with one saying: “Wow…spot on.”
