The Magpies, on the other hand, poured further pain and shame on the Red Devils, with Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall, and Joe Willock all scoring in front of 7,000 fans who made the journey.

Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure after losing eight of his first 15 games in all competitions this season.

The most recent performance was so terrible that new £72 million signing Hojlund felt compelled to apologize.

The Dane, who missed a penalty in his first Manchester derby on Sunday, came off the bench in the 64th minute, replacing Anthony Martial as Ten Hag brought on him, Marcus Rashford, and Bruno Fernandes in an attempt to salvage something.

At that point, the game was already over, with Newcastle leading 3-0 and looking very comfortable.

But Hojlund took to Instagram after the limp loss and wrote: “Sorry for today everyone.”

Hojlund has scored three goals since joining United, all of which came in Champions League defeats against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray, respectively.

Meanwhile, after scoring only 89 goals for United in nine years, Martial is still a member of the club.

The Frenchman’s presence in the squad was questioned by Neville, who doesn’t believe “we’re being harsh enough” on the decision to keep him.

Sometimes I ask myself the question, when you walk away from a broadcast like Sunday, ‘are we being too harsh?’.

“But when you hear that stat that a guy has been at the club nine years – a goalscorer that cost £50m, £60m, £70m – has scored basically 89 goals in nine years and we still can’t get him out of the club, I don’t think we are being too harsh. I don’t think we’re being harsh enough.”
