Atletico Madrid and Antoine Griezmann ‘make final decision’ on Man Utd’s January deal

Antoine Griezmann, a star player for Atletico Madrid and France, is apparently not going to move to Manchester United in January, despite rumors that he would be joining the Old Trafford team. After a poor start to the Premier League season, Erik ten Hag is looking for reinforcements, and the 32-year-old’s name has been touted as part of an unexpected trade.

According to reports, Griezmann has an unexpectedly modest £21.9 million release clause, which would allow United to jump on the striker and possibly even increase his pay should he decide to go from Spain to England. However, it seems that he is not prepared to leave the team with whom he has played well for two seasons.

Griezmann will not be leaving Atletico in January, according to Fabrizio Romano, despite ongoing rumors of a possible transfer to Old Trafford. This was revealed to The United Stand. The Frenchman had already left in 2019 when Barcelona used his £105 million buy-out clause, but he was unable to carry over his success at the Nou Camp.

Ten Hag might have believed that Griezmann, a versatile attacker, would have strengthened United’s underperforming front line. Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay are the only two United players to have scored more than once in the league this season; the Red Devils have only managed 13 goals in 12 league games.

Despite his impressive performance, particularly in the Champions League, Rasmus Hojlund has not been able to establish himself domestically after moving from Atalanta for £72 million in the summer. After losing out on Harry Kane, he was the club’s high-profile addition moving forward, however he still needs time to get used to the league.

As Marcus Rashford has found it difficult to reach the great heights of the previous campaign. The failure of players like Anthony Martial, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Facundo Pellistri to have a major influence in the future may have led to the rumored interest in Griezmann.
