Liverpool overtakes Man City following a ‘rain of goals’ at Anfield



The meeting between Liverpool and Fulham left Anfield’s crowd in tears. The home team led twice but fell behind Fulham once as well. Klopp’s team needed goals in the closing minutes to win 4-3.

After the starting whistle, the home team was in complete control of the match; yet, Fulham’s tight defense made it tough for the home team to attack. The game was tied in the 20th minute when Alexander-Arnold awarded a risky free kick. The ball struck Leno in the back before bouncing over the crossbar and into the net. An own goal was scored by the German goalkeeper.

When the home team’s defense wavered, Fulham swiftly equalized. Robinson crossed the field from the left in the twenty-fourth minute, allowing Wilson to beat goalie Kelleher with a close-range shot to tie the score at one. 

When the Fulham players failed to clear the ball in the 38th minute, Mac Allister unexpectedly fired from around 30 meters away. Goalie Leno flew out of reach as the ball went into the upper right corner of the goal. but is impervious to blocking. 

It was not long until Fulham equalized, and the race for the goal resumed. In minute 45+3, Tete took a close-range shot from the away team’s corner, and goalie Kelleher let the ball go into the net awkwardly.

Although Liverpool exerted greater pressure on the opposition and scored more goals in the second half than in the first, the home team experienced a protracted spell of inefficiency. Abruptly, in the 81st minute, Cordova-Reid applied good pressure, outmuscled two Liverpool players, and headed home from close range to make it 3-2.

The Liverpool players appeared incensed by the defeat. Salah sent the ball to Endo, who scored from the top of the penalty area, in the 87th minute. Leno was unable to stop the ball as it soared high to the left, and the home team tied the score at three. 

Liverpool didn’t stop attacking just yet; they soon scored the fourth goal. Alexander-Arnold secured a 4-win victory in the 88th minute by volleying the ball into the left corner after gaining possession of the ball at the top of the penalty area. Three for the national team.
