After a memorable performance against Wolves, Liverpool’s Academy may have produced yet another treasure for fans to enjoy.

The 20-year-old centre-back was called into a defense that lacked Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Joe Gomez sliding in on the right as a temporary fullback.

The defender’s numbers speak for themselves, as reported on X by Liverpool.com reporter Bence Bocsak, with him winning all three tackles and being heavily involved in the build-up.

Prior to his second-half substitution, Jurgen Klopp praised his protege’s contribution, saying, “In such a disorganized team as we were in the first half, being the one who looks kind of alright is a statement.”

While it’s much too early to declare Quansah the next Virgil van Dijk or Ibrahima Konate (the latter may be a more fair comparison given Quansah’s right-footedness), it’s certainly exciting to see such a composed performance.

In the circumstances, a confident performance in a significantly altered backline – especially given that Gomez was first asked to play the inverted role preferred by our No.66 – was more than deserving of praise.

While this shows that we have more depth in the right central defense than we previously thought, we’d be astonished if the club didn’t attempt to bring in a left-footed, left-sided centre-back in January.
