August’s Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Month for Liverpool is Dominik Szoboszlai.
After a stellar start to his Merseyside career, the Reds’ No. 8 wins the award for the first time in 2023–24.
On Liverpoolfc.com, Szoboszlai won a fan poll, beating out fellow players Alisson Becker and Darwin Nunez, who came in second and third, respectively.
It’s a really pleasant feeling, he stated after accepting the award at the AXA Training Center. Thank you to everyone who cast a vote for me.
“I’m simply doing all I can to support the team and perform my best work.
“It [the start] was also a surprise for me, but I appreciate the guys and the manager. If I had a helper, it will be simpler that way.
“However, as I’ve already stated, I’m doing my best to support the team, since the team is what matters most.
The first thing that came to mind was how it would feel to play at Anfield in front of the fans, or even during away games. They’re constantly there. I’m overjoyed to see them having fun.
All three of Liverpool’s Premier League games this month—in which they earned seven out of a potential nine points—were started by the Hungarian captain.
Szoboszlai, who began the season away at Chelsea, won Player of the Match honors in the 3-1 triumph over AFC Bournemouth, and he continued to shine in the comeback victory at Newcastle United.
“I think there’s always more to come,” he said. “I can definitely get better, and I also try to learn from the players who have been here for close to seven years, if not longer, or perhaps a little bit less. I’m trying to follow their instructions and just keep doing this.
