With only a few days till the international release of his biopic, Nigerian-Greek NBA player Giannis Antetokounmpo posed for a portrait with his two sons at the Acropolis of Athens this weekend.
The Milwaukee Bucks’ all-time leading scorer is on vacation in Greece after his team’s playoff season was cut short after a game seven loss to the Boston Celtics.
“Our annual Akropolis visit,” he captioned his father-and-son Instagram photo. His eldest son is already two years old, while his youngest will turn one in August.
Giannis has purchased two Costa Navarino Residences in the Peloponnese, where the family will spend their Greek vacation.
The film about Giannis Antetokounmpo will be released in June.
Rise, a biographical sports-drama film inspired by the Antetokounmpo brothers’ ascension, will be released later this month exclusively on Disney+ on June 24, 2022.
The anticipated biography, directed by Akin Omotoso from a script written by Arash Amel, depicts the three brothers’ early life and adventures in Greece, as well as the blossoming of their NBA careers.
It stars three newbies, Uche Agada, Ral Agada, and Jaden Osimuwa, as well as Elijah Shomanke, Yetide Badaki, and Dayo Okeniyi in supporting parts.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Douglas S. Jones served as executive producers.
“Audiences have never seen anything like the Antetokounmpos story.” “After emigrating from Nigeria to Greece, [parents] Charles and Vera Antetokounmpo struggled to survive and provide for their five children, all while facing deportation on a daily basis,” according to the film’s synopsis.
With their oldest kid still in Nigeria with relatives, the couple was keen to gain Greek citizenship but were thwarted at every point, according to the article.
“When the brothers Giannis and Thanasis weren’t selling items to tourists on the streets of Athens with the rest of the family, they’d play basketball with a local youth team.” They discovered their amazing potential on the basketball floor as latecomers to the sport and pushed hard to become world class sportsmen, together with brother, Kostas,” Disney+ says.
Giannis eventually entered the NBA Draft with the help of an agent in 2013, transforming not only his personal life but also the lives of his entire family.
Giannis and Thanasis helped the Milwaukee Bucks win their first championship in fifty years last season, while Kostas played for the previous season’s champions, the Los Angeles Lakers.
