Barcelona are allegedly interested in signing Thiago Alcantara if the Spanish midfielder leaves Liverpool next summer.

The former Barcelona youth star has only one year left on his contract and has yet to play for the Reds this season. He will be 33 by next summer and unlikely to be offered a new contract by the English club. According to Sport, Barcelona is ready to strike and is “attentive to the situation” of the midfielder.

Thiago’s recovery from a hip injury suffered near the conclusion of last season was hampered. After undergoing surgery in May, the midfielder has not played since April.

Thiago is poised to continue his rehab at Anfield, but appears likely to be playing elsewhere once his contract expires.
