Liverpool ‘crucial’ star suffer injury on international duty ahead of Everton clash

Andy Robertson, a Liverpool left-back, was pulled off with a serious-looking shoulder injury during Scotland’s 2-0 defeat in Spain in a Euro 2024 qualifier on Thursday night.

Just before halftime, the Liverpool star and Scotland captain departed the field with a shoulder injury and was replaced by Everton’s Nathan Patterson. After having a goal ruled out by VAR in the second half, Steve Clarke’s team went on to lose the game 2-0, with Alvaro Morata and Oihan Sancet scoring for the hosts.

Following a collision with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon, Robertson exited the field with his arm under his shirt, seeming to be in a sling. Scotland manager Steve Clarke has stated that Robertson will return to Liverpool for additional evaluation, which means he will miss Tuesday’s friendly against France.

“We’ll take a look, and he’ll go back to his club now,” he added. When you lose one player in a position, it always seems to happen. We lose Kieran [Tierney], and Andy has a shoulder injury. We’ll see how things go and how they settle down. Hopefully, he’ll be back in shape for his club as soon as possible and ready to assist us in November.”

In their first game following the international break, Liverpool meet Everton at Anfield in the Merseyside derby. On October 26, they play Toulouse in the Europa League group stage before finishing the month at home against Nottingham Forest. Before the November international break, they also play at Bournemouth, Luton Town, and Toulouse. Their last game before the next round of internationals is a home game against Brentford.

Robertson has played every minute of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign thus far, with Jurgen Klopp’s side sitting fourth after eight games. He has been rested for both of the club’s Europa League matches and did not play in last month’s Carabao Cup victory against Leicester.
