Almost half of Anthony Martial’s eight years at Manchester United have been marred by rumors of his leaving the team after he failed to live up to his lofty expectations as a £36 million youngster. He has also been connected to a departure during the January transfer window, but it appears that any action will have to wait until the summer of 2019.
After being turned down by Onana, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag makes a special request. After winning the Golden Boy award in 2015, Martial was among Europe’s most promising young forwards when he came in Manchester.
Despite scoring 89 goals in 308 United appearances over the past ten years, his development has eventually been hindered by recurring injury issues.
Under Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and now Erik ten Hag, he has been connected to a split.
The signing of Rasmus Hojlund in the summer, who cost £72 million, moved Martial down the ladder and raised speculation that his time at Old Trafford was running out.
But Ten Hag might give him the chance to compete for his M16 future after the winter transfer window closes.
GiveMeSport reports that Ten Hag is certain Martial can contribute significantly this season if United’s schedule is as packed as it was for their 62-game 2022–2023 campaign.

Although he lost his spot as a likely starter, the 27-year-old’s dedication and hard work in the gym are rumored to have impressed his boss.
Furthermore, Ten Hag is prepared to give Martial opportunities to create an impression before the year ends, possibly creating the possibility of him continuing his United adventure.
As Ten Hag seeks to purge the deadwood from his ranks, it is unclear if the Red Devils would trigger an extension for Martial, whose contract expires in the summer of 2019.
Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are in comparable situations, although the Dutchman wishes to take advantage of the one-year extension option in their existing contracts to lock up their careers through at least 2025.

If Graham Potter takes over for Erik ten Hag, Man Utd may recruit five players from Chelsea.
Although Ten Hag appears to be giving Martial the chance to win a contract extension or an alluring free transfer at the end of the season, Martial’s situation is still more uncertain.
This season, the United No. 9 has only made three starts; the other five Premier League and Champions League games have seen him in as a late substitution.
Beyond Hojlund, he is Ten Hag’s only other natural striker, thus a winter leave would necessitate finding a replacement.
However, Martial appears to be staying at United until the summer of next year, when he will need to make a crucial choice over his future.
