When Rasmus Hojlund, the striker for Manchester United, plays Copenhagen in the third round of Group A of the Champions League, he will square off against his twin siblings.

It will be the first time three siblings have participated in a Champions League match if all three of them enter the field at Old Trafford today.

Although they are equally highly regarded, Hojlund’s two younger brothers have not yet secured a regular starting position at Copenhagen. With seven appearances overall this season, Oscar, a midfielder, has stood in for Elias Achouri once in the Champions League, coming on in the second half of Breidablik’s 6-3 victory in the qualification round.

Emil is a striker who played his first game for the Copenhagen first team this season. He made his debut in the Europa Conference League the previous season. Emil did, however, excel with the youth squad, scoring six goals in six games.

Rasmus was raised at the Copenhagen academy as well. Before joining Sturm Graz in Austria in January 2022, he scored five goals in 32 games for the Danish powerhouse. After netting 12 goals in 21 games for Sturm Graz, he signed a 19 million dollar contract to join Atalanta in the summer of 2022. Despite having only nine goals in 32 Serie A games the previous season, Hojlund’s ability to choose his spots, take advantage of gaps in the opposition’s defense, and finish with both feet earned him a High value rating.

Rasmus Hojlund, who signed a deal with Manchester United until 2028, was acquired by the team this summer from Atalanta for an initial payment of $83 million and further payments totaling $11 million. With three goals in the Champions League, including a double against Galatasaray and a goal against Bayern, the Danish striker steadily established himself.

Before enrolling in the Copenhagen academy, Oscar, Emil, and Rasmus Hojlund all began their careers as players for the neighborhood Horsholm Usserod Idraetsklub (HUI).

HUI sports director Christian Mouroux believes that twin brothers Oscar and Emil are even better than their older brother Rasmus. “All three are above average, but the two younger brothers, compared to Rasmus of the same age, are performing better,” he told Manchester Evening News . “In my opinion, in terms of pure talent, Oscar and Emil have a slight competitive advantage over Rasmus.”

Oscar, in Mouroux’s opinion, plays with a warrior’s strength, winning mentality, and relentless ball-tackling, whereas Emil plays more delicately, dribbling and making exquisite passes.

With the help of their father Anders, the HUI coach who devoted hours to teaching each kid, the three Hojlund brothers made significant progress. In order to assist his kids practice soccer when it’s bad outside and they can’t go outside, dad even turned the house’s basement into a wooden indoor pitch.

Although the three brothers have known each other since they were young children, their constant desire to improve causes tension during training sessions, forcing father Anders to step in. Emil, however, was thrilled to be able to continue his football career with Oscar when the twin brothers signed their first deal with Copenhagen at the end of 2021.

Rasmus disclosed that he spoke with Oscar and Emil immediately following the Champions League group stage draw, demonstrating the continued closeness of the three siblings. The 20-year-old striker feels fantastic about playing against his twin siblings and is eager to compete against his former team. Emil is perhaps the best talent on HUI, but Rasmus will also want to show that he is the best.
