The victory was not a vintage Chelsea performance, but captain Reece James, who made his first start since the beginning of the season, provided much-needed solidity to the team. Raheem Sterling’s goal in the 60th minute settled the nerves of Chelsea fans and sealed the win. 

Despite dominating the game, Chelsea’s young squad still showed some vulnerability in the attacking department, with striker Nicolas Jackson fading after a promising start. The opening goal came through a misjudgment by Blackburn’s goalkeeper Leo Wahlstedt, who failed to clear a cross from Conor Gallagher, allowing Badiashile to score.
