Arsenal has been advised to trade under-fire summer signing Kai Havertz for Bayer Leverkusen prodigy Florian Wirtz. Havertz has only been at the Emirates for a few months after joining from Chelsea in a £65 million summer transfer, but he has struggled to get off to a good start.
The German has frequently been left out of Mikel Arteta’s preferred starting lineup, and his only goal for the club came from a charity penalty against Bournemouth, when Bukayo Saka gave his teammate the opportunity to score from the spot. He was also used as a substitute left-back for Germany in their recent 3-2 loss to Turkey.
Former Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant believes Havertz is not the perfect fit for the Gunners and should be swapped for one of his countrymen. Wirtz, a Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, has impressed in the Bundesliga and has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool and Chelsea both reportedly interested in the £70 million-rated player.
“That Kai Havertz signing hasn’t worked,” Pennant explained to King Casino Bonus. “I thought I’d give him some time to adjust, but that time has passed.” I believe he was a bad signing. I’m not sure what he offers to the club because he’s not scoring or assisting. It’s strange because Arteta seemed to believe in him.

“I think Arsenal should have gone for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. His footballing IQ is off the charts! He’s not a speed-merchant, but he’s clever on the ball and he seems to always pick the right pass.
“His assists are great, he has an eye for goal, and I think he’d be a fantastic addition to Arsenal. He’d fit in perfectly there. Wirtz would be a lot cheaper, and they should trade him in for Kai!”

When the transfer market opens, Wirtz will be in high demand, and Arsenal will face stiff competition from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool if they are interested in the 20-year-old attacker. According to the Daily Star, Jurgen Klopp admires the young German and believes he might fill Mohamed Salah’s shoes at Anfield if the Egyptian leaves for Saudi Arabia.
While TEAMtalk claims that Chelsea and Manchester City are vying for Wirtz, his performances under Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso have attracted the interest of several of Europe’s best.
Arsenal, on the other hand, may have an advantage over their rivals if they provide Havertz in exchange. He had previously impressed at the German club, having progressed through their youth and became a Bundesliga standout before joining Chelsea in 2020 for £72 million.
